Meaning of Florida Kilos by Lana Del Rey (the story behind)

"Florida Kilos" is a song by Lana Del Rey that delves into the darker side of the Sunshine State. In this song, Del Rey describes a fantasy world filled with drugs, money, and danger. The lyrics hint at a seedy underbelly and a glamorous lifestyle that can be found in Florida.

The song's lyrics paint a vivid picture of a hedonistic paradise, where the characters are "counting pesos by the pool" and "smoking Cuban cigars." Del Rey's sultry vocals lend a sense of allure to the narrative, inviting listeners into this illicit world.

However, beneath the glamorous facade, there is a sense of emptiness and longing. Del Rey sings about chasing after something that is always just out of reach, suggesting that this lifestyle comes at a cost.

"Florida Kilos" explores themes of escapism, materialism, and the desire for a more exciting life. It offers a glimpse into a world where reality is suspended, and consequences are temporarily forgotten. Through her lyrics, Del Rey captures the complex emotions and contradictions of seeking pleasure and fulfillment in a place that promises so much, yet fails to deliver lasting satisfaction.
